Xfinity offers a huge array of plans, with some of the fastest and cheapest internet of any provider.

What we like

  • Variety of plans available
  • Cheap starting prices
  • Widely available
  • Fastest speed and consistency scores in third-party tests

What we don’t like

  • Lots of hidden fees
  • Upload speeds will be slower and depend on your location
  • Price increases in year two on some plans

Xfinity‌ plans‌ ‌and‌ ‌prices‌

Most internet providers have different plans and prices depending on where you live, but Xfinity offers national plans. The new national plans have no contracts or early termination fees (ETFs), and they come with unlimited data and equipment included.

Choose from a one-year deal or a five-year deal with your Xfinity Next Gen plan. For example, the 500 Mbps plan is $55.00/mo. if you choose the one-year deal, but you can lock in a price of $70.00/mo. for five years without price hikes when you get the five-year deal. This compares to the everyday price of $85.00/mo.

‌Xfinity‌ ‌speed

Xfinity ranks as one of the best performing ISPs, according to the FCC’s latest data report. Its customers almost always reach their plan’s speeds, and what’s more, they do it during peak hours, too. In fact, most Xfinity customers receive speeds above the plan they’re paying for.

Speed test data from Ookla tells the same story. Xfinity came in first place for median download speeds (226 Mbps) and consistency.

‌Xfinity‌ ‌features‌ ‌

If you’re looking for basic internet packages with no extra costs or bundling options, then Xfinity provides it. They also provide several bonus features unique to their service, making Xfinity Wi-Fi a good choice for many movers. Some of the those Xfinity bonuses include:

  • Xfinity’s Xumo Stream Box is a streaming device that is included with almost all of their internet plans. There is no additional cost or commitment necessary to enjoy it. This dashboard allows you to easily search across streaming platforms like Netflix and Prime Video. It includes 4K streaming and comes with a special Voice Remote. Think of it as a guide for all of your favorite streaming platforms.
  • Xfinity internet plans have unlimited data. This way, you don’t have to worry about paying more if you have some extra Netflix binges throughout the month.
  • For those who are moving, Xfinity has made it easier than ever to take their service with you. In just minutes, you can schedule your move online and not have to worry about downtime between your old and new locations.

Xfinity‌ ‌reviews‌ ‌

The American Customer Satisfaction Index is an organization that rates consumer satisfaction with various companies across the United States. Xfinity holds a rating score of 69 out of 100. This puts them in fourth place among internet service providers, behind Verizon Fios, AT&T, and T-Mobile.

How does Xfinity compare?

Xfinity ranks in the middle of the pack compared to other internet providers. Its starting prices are some of the lowest you’ll find with any provider, but when you add on price increases, they’re not as much of a steal as they look like initially.

Our take

Xfinity is one of the more complicated ISPs to review. There are loads of fees that can add on to your final bill. That said, it does provide a consistent and fast internet connection. If there is a fiber internet provider in your area, you’re probably better off going with that. But if it’s between Xfinity and another cable or DSL provider, Xfinity is a solid option.

Xfinity FAQs

Q:

Is‌ ‌Xfinity‌ ‌Comcast?

A:

Comcast is the company that owns Xfinity. They are different branches, but they exist beneath the same tree. It’s sort of like “Star Wars” to Disney. They are not the same, but one is owned by the other, therefore they share common roots. Comcast not only owns the Xfinity TV and internet service provider, but they also own companies like NBC and Dreamworks Animation.

Q:

Is‌ ‌Xfinity‌ ‌internet‌ ‌available‌ ‌in‌ ‌my‌ ‌area?

A:

Xfinity provides coverage to around 111 million people in 40 states around the country, so there’s a decent chance there is coverage in your area. You would need to check your address on their coverage map to be sure, though.

Q:

I am moving. How quickly can I get internet service?

A:

If you have made plans to initiate service prior to your move-in date and you are going to install the necessary equipment yourself, then your internet service can be available the moment you step foot into your new place. If you need professional installation, then you will have service based on when you scheduled the appointment. When you take the time to plan accordingly, internet service can often be up and running the next day.
