Mediacom offers a wide array of cable internet packages for customers, regardless of residence or region. Their packages are traditionally designed for a variety of customers with varying levels of internet use. Medicom’s internet plans have also been improving recently, increasing plan speeds and providing larger data caps.

More than almost any other internet provider we’ve looked at, Mediacom increases their prices drastically from year to year. Depending on which plan you have, you can expect to pay more every single year for the first four years of service.

Speed

When you subscribe to Mediacom, you’ll get the speed you pay for. According to the FCC’s most recent report, Mediacom was one of the best-performing ISPs in the country, with more than 90% of customers getting at least 95% of their advertised download speed.

Mediacom also ranked as one of the most consistent, delivering 100% or greater than their advertised speed during peak hours to more than 80% of their panelists for more than 80% of the time. In short, you can feel confident that Mediacom will deliver the internet speeds they say they will.

Mediacom reviews

Mediacom has an average 3.7 star (out of five) overall satisfaction rating on Consumer Affairs, from more than 600 reviews submitted from customers. Some negative reviews cite intermittent signal outages and unreliable customer service. Positive reviews talk of cheaper internet prices and quick installation.

Mediacom’s reviews from its customer base have been a bit mixed. The ISP was one of the lower-scoring providers on the ACSI (American Customer Satisfaction Index) in 2022 with a total score of 60, showing that customers haven’t been as satisfied with Mediacom’s reliability of internet service and customer service. 

Even with some service drawbacks, Mediacom’s willingness to cover areas where other service providers are absent is an attractive consideration for new movers after they’ve settled into their new surroundings.

How does Mediacom compare?

Mediacom has a much lower starting price point than other internet providers, and you’ll still get a decent speed. It has virtually the same starting package as CenturyLink, for instance, but it’s a full $30/mo. cheaper. That said, it doesn’t compare as well for faster packages — especially after you factor in the yearly price increases.

Our take

Mediacom is a solid choice in many of the areas that’s available. Most households will be just fine with 100 Mbps download speed, and the starting price of $19.99/mo. is almost unheard of for internet plans. Mediacom’s performance stacks up against anybody, too, delivering some of the most reliable service of any internet provider. That said, you should be aware of the price increases that come with every plan before signing up.
